Sage Geosystems is partnering with the UT Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG) on an AFWERX STTR Phase II contract to perform a feasibility study for installing geothermal on permanent military bases, with a focus on Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston. TexNet, the Texas seismic monitoring program at The Bureau has completed the deployment of three induced seismicity monitoring stations on and in the vicinity of the base with plans to deploy five additional stations outside of the base by the end of the month. Establishing a baseline in seismicity is part of the feasibility study and the stations are recording data now and transmitting it to the Bureau’s data hub.
The Bureau will also be delivering a detailed subsurface geologic analysis of the area around Ellington, which will inform the geothermal well design and power plant for this 3MW microgrid. The Bureau scientists are exceptional partners and we appreciate the collaboration in our journey to revolutionize geothermal energy in sedimentary rock.
